Attack of the Pet Peeves!

I have a lot of things that irritate me.  Usually little stupid things that no one else notices or cares about.  I think everyone has stuff like that.  But there is one thing that I just can't stand and its firmly in the land of bibliophile nerds like me.

I often go to Anime and Manga sites to read stories and read about the latest adventures of my favorite characters.  I've noticed though that the majority of these sites alphabetize the lists of Anime and Manga in which they put titles that begin with "The" under T.

Oh the fingernails on the chalk board!

You see, years and years ago when English teachers used to be 50 year old women who'd scream at you and hit you with rulers (well, threatened it anyway), I learned that when it came to the rules of alphabetizing titles of movies, books, etc, you ignored the word "The" so that "The Red Badge of Courage" comes under 'R'.  The Caine Mutiny goes under 'C'.

Maybe that rule isn't taught anymore.  I mean, when I went to school, we actually read Beowulf and Shakespeare in class.  I don't think they do that anymore.

So, when I go to these sites and see a huge list of titles under T that are there because the first word is "The", I scream really really loud at the screen that "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" goes under M, "The World God Only Knows" goes under 'W'... NOT a huge long list of titles THE THE THE...

Yes, I'm a grammar Nazi and rules Nazi... and like those historical Nazis, I often don't even follow my own rules and make the same mistakes.  Oh well, good thing those Anime sites can't hear me screaming.  They'd probably beat the crap out of me.  Old weirdo otaku!
